The Fair, Green and Global alliance is more than ready for the next five years

The Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen, has selected the Fair, Green and Global alliance (FGG) to be one of the partners she will work with from 2016 until 2020. FGG will be one of the Ministry’s 25‘strategic partnerships’. We, ActionAid, Both ENDS, Clean Clothes Campaign, Friends of the Earth, SOMO and TNI, are very much looking forward to taking our FGG alliance to the next level.

Unfortunately, the disastrous consequences of the continuing budget cuts for development cooperation are now also becoming visible. We regret that the current cuts will severely hit many local civil society organisations for whom support from Dutch development NGOs has been crucial over the past decades. We are concerned how this will negatively affect the role that civil society plays globally and locally in promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

The strategic partnership is a recognition for our work and collaboration over the past years. In working together as an alliance the FGG-partners have clearly had a greater impact than we would have had as individual organisations. We seek and use each other’s expertise on specific subjects, we expand our networks and we jointly support local communities and CSOs.

Together with partner organisations and networks all over the world we develop exemplary models for land and water management and showcase participatory decision-making models. We advocate for better social and environmental regulations and greater compliance for companies and international financial institutions. In the Netherlands we joined forces to raise awareness about problems affecting people and the planet as a result of policies and activities of corporations, investors and governments. In the coming years we will continue to expose these problems but also continue to work on showcasing innovations which demonstrate that viable solutions are at hand.
